Even in these hard times of global economic meltdown, managing a company could be the most strenuous thing one has to do. However, “if I were the boss” I would do my best to ensure that there is transformation in a company. Transformation in this regard will, of course, be inline with saving money, cutting the unnecessary costs and to have quality production. I mean the credit crunch had a negative effect to most companies. But I think it lies in management hands to make sure that the company continue to produce and delivers more than the clients’ expectations.
Regardless of the economic meltdown, as a boss I would be diplomatic in my dealings. I would maintain diplomacy with everyone in my work environment regardless how much trust they have in me. The degree of trust is of utmost importance in any work atmosphere, though I won’t necessary befriends with them but I will conduct business during the working hours. Trust between the boss and employees have to be legitimate, meaning you should have hope that everyone would do their tasks. I need to be sure that I can count on everyone, and that no one can let me down and whatever needs to be accomplished will be, in time.
The trust does not come as manna from heaven though, you create it; you have to mingle with your employees – get to know them, their personality and attitude. This will even make the flow of information within the departments or people flourish. I won’t take myself as a boss as such, but I will get my hands on wherever needed. Honestly speaking I hate the word “boss”, not because it gives some authority but it gives people a degree of inferiority as well. So as a manager I would take responsibilities, I would make everyone feel at home, I mean work should be a home away from home since they spend most of their time there.
I would be strict though when someone violates the company policy and take advantage of me – being a nice person that I am. Say one don’t show-up for a meeting and continually fail to do tasks that are expected of him, I would take actions against him. Same applies with someone who does not demonstrate co-operation in any respect. The actions will be based in on the company policy, and disciplinary procedures will be followed thereafter to minimize workload from other employees’ shoulders that’d have to carry out his duties.
